In the past decade, the prevalence of freelance and so-called “gig” work has increased steeply. From 2014 to 2020, the number of independent contractors in the U.S. alone has risen 11 percent, and this doesn’t take into account the number of people who have started freelancing since the pandemic. With around 90 percent of businesses reporting that they’re planning on increasing their reliance on freelance workers, the cat’s out of the bag: This is a great way to add new perspectives and specific, niche knowledge to your company. And because we’re a distributed team, we’re also able to hire talent from anywhere in the world, not just our backyard.

We’re proud to say that Wordsmithie was an early adopter of the freelance workforce, having worked mainly as a group of freelancers since our founding in 2010. We now have 7 staffers, and over 30 trusted contractors who do amazing work for our clients.

We believe that all of our projects have been better off with the insights our diverse team brings to the table. With syndicated columnists, published authors, e-learning experts, award-winning entrepreneurs, and even two Emmy winners, our team brings their passion and expertise — which spans multiple industries, continents, and disciplines — to all of their work. And as they take on more projects both with and outside of Wordsmithie, this expertise only grows.

Khaleelah Jones

Khaleelah is a 2x exited founder and seasoned growth leader with a deep background in digital marketing. She started, scaled, and sold Careful Feet Digital, a boutique agency specialising in SEO, social media, and content marketing, and was co-CEO of Ada’s List, Europe’s largest community for women in tech. She has also led marketing teams at high-growth startups in Europe and the US, with a focus on scaling through performance marketing, partnerships, and brand strategy. Today, she combines hands-on expertise in SEO and social media with her broader experience as a non-executive director and mentor to founders and Series A companies. Alongside her client work, she is completing her first book, a history of women in the workplace.
