Steadfastly Human, Transforming with AI
When OpenAI’s ChatGPT hit with the force of a tornado in November 2022, many of us felt like Dorothy, trapped in her spinning farmhouse during a twister. We braced ourselves for a landing— only to emerge into a strange, Technicolor new world.
Yet we were also ready for the storm: The fact is, we’ve been working with AI for over a decade, having written about its implications, use cases, and potential. We even built our own walled garden using GPT-3 in early 2020. When generative AI arrived, we considered all the ways it might impact our agency, then ran toward it to learn all we could. We did so, wondering if it could wipe us out, but we also because we believed there was a way to peacefully partner with AI in this brave new world without losing our humanity.
Wordsmithie has always championed the human element in our work, helping people navigate complex technology and digital experiences by enhancing, not replacing, the human touch. This approach is rooted in the fundamental belief that technology is designed by and for other humans.
Our team is a diverse collection of creative professionals—journalists, storytellers, designers, and strategists—united by a common thread of curiosity that drives us to constantly ask, “What if?” This curiosity is nothing new. Many of our team members pioneered digital experiences at foundational companies like Lycos (the first search engine), Resource Interactive (the first digital agency), and Google. We have long surfed the curl of emerging technologies, and AI is a true tsunami: the most massive, transformative wave we’ve ever encountered.
That’s why we have embraced the transformative nature of AI, becoming an AI-augmented agency. Yet our approach remains true to our DNA: we view AI as an assistive technology, not a creative one. We are not replacing our smart, seasoned, and gifted creative team; instead, we utilize AI to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of our uniquely human approach, delivering greater value to our clients.
We are implementing AI in four key ways to support our work:
- Gaining in-depth insights: Analyzing creative briefs, source materials, and client feedback more thoroughly, resulting in better and more meaningful content and design work.
- Reducing manual work: Automating repetitive tasks for studio directors and project managers, freeing them up to partner more closely with clients and creatives.
- Streamlining client workflows: Helping clients improve processes like internal review rounds and research that can slow down collaboration.
- Creating new offerings: Building on our “what if” spirit to develop new tools and services that leverage AI to align with our clients’ needs and our team’s unique talents.
Our commitment to remaining a human creative agency isn’t simply self-serving (though we do like each other very much!). It’s also supported by data confirming the concept of the Human Premium: that the work and creative output of humans are becoming more valued than ever in an AI world.
At Wordsmithie, we call this the Human Imperative because the human touch isn’t just a “nice to have”—it’s imperative for creating content that stands out amidst the rising tide of AI slop. We outline how this works in practice in our Human + AI Integration Playbook for Creative Teams. An October 2025 report from Graphite found that 86% of articles ranked by Google Search are human-written, versus 14% generated by AI. And SEO guru Neil Patel’s blog post, Who Writes Better Blogs That Get More Traffic, cites an NP Digital study showing that human-generated content drives 5.44 times more traffic than AI-generated content because humans connect through context, emotion and empathy that AI can’t replicate.
As part of our innovation, we will soon launch an exciting new AI-human hybrid service, ARIA. ARIA is designed to help clients rapidly refresh older content, then spin up new concepts and content based on the original themes and topics. Our project leads and editorial team will ensure the content maintains the critical human voice and touch that consistently outperforms AI-generated content, weaving a fabric of AI-augmented human content creation into Wordsmithie’s strategic approach.
As we enter our 16th year, we have evolved into a new kind of agency—one that draws on the power of AI to go deeper and see farther. Yet, our essence remains the same: A dedicated team of humans will always be at the keyboard and behind every project, ensuring the work we do for clients and their customers remains rrooted in the human experience. Even when the world feels like it’s spinning too fast all around them, we’ll be right there by their side.
